  • Markers: What will happen to the anti-Trump conservatives?

Markers: What will happen to the anti-Trump conservatives?

Some thoughts spurred by a blog post on Miles Taylor revealing that he was the Anonymous who published anti-Trump articles over these last years. Do we love him? well, we like what Taylor revealed anonymously but he’s not exactly free from complicity, according to one who ought to know:

    Anyway, thoughts:

I believe the anti-Trump Republicans, and ex-Trump administration people who have spilled the beans on him, are going to break into a few different camps.

    • Some will just go back to ratfucking anyone they think worth ratfucking, be it their peers, us, or innocent kids (I suspect our former-Anonymous Miles will be one of these)
    • A few will try to make a more palatable far-right uber-Xtian quasi-libertarian GOP – people with the moral compass and oatmeal-personality of Pence (yes, I know he’s not anti-Trump) will fall into this camp
    • Some will try to make a more ethical Republican party; ex-RNC chair Michael Steele, bless his heart, will be one of these, and he will fail despite his best intentions šŸ™
    • What I think of as the more enlightened ones will, or have already, completely abandoned the GOP altogether, reform themselves into a party that resembles the better of the Eisenhower Republicans, and having learned the lessons of these last decades on human rights, the need for social programs, and the failure of trickle down economics, will attempt a conservative version of sane policy development for the breadth of who actually lives in the United States these days.

It is this last group I want to prevail. It’s this last group who Democrats will be able to actually work with. I see this being spearheaded by the Lincoln Project people; maybe they’ll call it The Lincoln Party. They will attempt to work from their better angels, then the Michael Steeles in this scenario will reluctantly abandon their much beloved ship, and join up. So will some of the more right-wing Democrats, especially any anti-choice ones.

That’s my prediction, and we’ll just see how it plays out.
